Should I use Toslink or Component cable for audio?
I bought a component cable for my PS2 to connect to my HDTV. I also have a Toslink (digital optical audio cable).
Now I was wondering, should I connect my Toslink or my audio cable (from the component cables) to my surround system amplifer? I read somewhere that Toslink does not have Dolby surround sound, only 2 channels? Is this true? I thought Toslink was the better of the two audio cables?
If by “my audio cable (from the component cables)” you mean a single coaxial digital audio cable (it will be the same thickness as the red, green, and blue cables), then it doesn’t matter. Digital audio over coax and over Toslink carry exactly the same bits. There can be subtle advantages in one or the other in certain circumstances; in particular, coax works over a much longer distance. But if they work at all they’re carrying the same data.
If you mean the red and white stereo analog pair, then by all means use Toslink.

Absolutely, positively NOT true. Toslink (and digital coax audio) carries Dolby stereo, a/k/a/ AC3, and also DTS sound just fine.
The one thing in the way of current HT sound that Toslink – or digital coax audio – both called “S/PDIF”, by the way – can’t do is the new lossless 8-channel (7.1) Dolby format. Unless you have side L and R as well as rear L and R speakers, AND a receiver that can handle HDMI audio instead of just passing the HDMI signal on to your TV, this will affect you not at all. But the only thing that can carry that stuff is HDMI. Coax and Toslink could actually do the job (it would need protocol other than s/pdif), but Dolby refuses to license anybody to carry it over anything but HDMI.
