What are the main uses of PCI Express x1?

I bought a new Graphics Card and there is something impeding its way in. The thing uses a PCI Express x1 slot and im not sure what it is so i just want to know what some of its uses are like soundcard modem ect.

Most PCI express x1 cards are sound cards, RAID cards, LAN cards, and TV tuners.
